Peoples Christian Academy Builds Towards A Strong Future
Reg Andrews | 2011-04-05
On Saturday, March 26, 2011 Peoples Christian Academy (PCA) launched a very successful Sod-Turning Ceremony at its new relocation in Markham, Ontario. The school welcomed the community of Markham and surrounding area to observe the historic Sod-Turning event, as it approaches forty years of operation.
An all-grade (JK-Grade 12) private Christian school, with additional plans for a pre-school, PCA has served the Greater Toronto Area community since 1971 and boasts over 3000 alumni, with a strong and respected history of excellence in values-based preparatory education. The creation of the school was a result of the vision of Dr. Oswald J. Smith and Dr. Paul B. Smith, both former pastors of The Peoples Church, Toronto. Peoples Christian Academy believes that, in cooperation with the home, its mandate is to train up students to be difference makers in their world. Inspected by the Ministry of Education for Ontario, PCA seeks to offer a high level of academic training to the entire community. Saturday’s sod-turning ceremony was well attended as some 400 guests and families stopped by to listen to the Elementary School Choir perform a number of stirring songs, to visit the various subject displays and to interact with the school’s administrators and staff. Mayor Frank Scarpitti sent his best wishes to Peoples Christian Academy, warmly welcoming the school to Markham. Councillor Alan Ho brought greetings from the Town of Markham, noting that we are witnessing a major milestone for PCA’s long history of creating future leaders and celebrating its 40th Anniversary this coming September. Mr. Mark Kennedy, Regional Director of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) made the Depuratory Prayer. The sod-turning ceremony was led by Mrs. Carol Lam, President of PCA (Inc.), the governing body of the school. Due to great demand from the visiting families, all application kits were taken. Those who missed this opportunity to visit Saturday’s great event can go to www.pca.ca to download the application form. Renovation will commence early in April on the 60,000 sq. ft. school which will be equipped with a wide range of new state-of-the-art facilities, including science and computer labs, music, drama, French/language and art rooms, libraries, cafetorium, and gymnasium. The building sits on a 5 acre lot with green space. Bussing service will be provided in the new school year to transport students from the old school site in North York to the new Markham Campus at 245 Renfrew Drive, which is conveniently located near the major intersections of Highway 404 and Highway 407.
