Parent Advisory Committee for PCA | 2010-04-16
April 16, 2010   ISSUE # 8

Dear parents,

We have received a testimony from a student graduating this year. It is so refreshing and touching. Let’s read part 1 of her sharing. Maybe it also speaks for your children.

Testimony- Part 1

PCA has been my home away from home for the last 14 years. I’m what you call a lifer, or will-be lifer. I’ve been at PCA since JK. In terms of hours, I’ve spent over 3920 hours at PCA, including extracurricular activities, concerts, plays and whatnot. Being in one place for so long has a lot of impact on who I am, especially considering that the hours I spent there were during the most influential period of my life.

My PCA experience started when I was placed in Mrs. Priggins’ class in JK. This was the era of dress up, crayons and the special computer in the corner with only one colour of graphics: green. This was also the time in which I learned the alphabet. In Grade 1, Miss Smitherman read books to us from a series called Nate the Great. This is actually what sparked my great love for reading…just ask my teachers… Miss Smitherman not only inspired my love of literature, but she also led me to Christ. She won’t remember it because she was not with me when I gave my life to Christ, but it was what she said in class that convinced me to make that decision. I believe in Christian education. Yes, I realize I’m biased. I believe in Christian education not only because I’ve gone through it, but because I see the difference having a Christian education makes. Growing up at PCA, I’ve heard Bible stories all my life and have memorized Bible verses since before I could understand them. PCA has not only given me a strong foundation in Biblical stories...(to be continued).

When we all look back in our school days, we have to admit that teachers play an important part in our lives. But let’s ask ourselves how many of our teachers do we actually remember? The fact that so many of our PCA lifers remember their childhood and their teachers and call PCA their home, really speaks for itself. We are no experts of parenting, but we all want our children to grow up happily and responsibly. Family relationships these days are no easy sail. It’s only by God’s grace and guidance that we can go through countless events of arguments, heartbreaking moments, communications breakdowns and misunderstandings. Having teachers who care and protect will definitely make a difference.

Thank you to all who responded to our call for Prayer Warriors. A lot more warriors are needed so we can have a different prayer team support the school each day. If you can join us, please email us at pac (at) pca (dot) ca including preferences for languages, time and format for prayers i.e. in-person or over the phone. Let’s all turn this challenging time into an opportunity for building unity and for strengthening our faith.

A lot of the large corporations that we work for have donation programs to a charitable organization of your choice. Some match your donations up to a certain amount. Some donate up to $500 to a charitable organization that you volunteer your hours. Please go and check with your employers and designate PCA as a recipient under their donation programs.
